Our Services
Neurological Physiotherapy Northern Rivers
Retraining the brain and body to move better — evidence-based care for neurological conditions across all ages.
About the service
What is neurological physiotherapy?
Neurological physiotherapy is a specialised area of physiotherapy focused on supporting people who have conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, or nervous system. It draws on the science of neuroplasticity — the brain's remarkable ability to reorganise and form new connections — to help people regain or improve movement, function and independence.
Our therapists use evidence-based techniques including task-specific training, hands-on facilitation, strengthening and balance work to help the nervous system relearn movement patterns. Treatment is always tailored to the individual, their goals, and the environments they live and move in.
Please contact our team to discuss their experience with your specific concern or condition. We are happy to talk through whether our services are the right fit for you before you book.

Movement goals
How does neurological physiotherapy support mobility, balance, and transfers?
Improving how you move through your day is at the heart of what we do. We work across a range of functional goals depending on what matters most to you.
Mobility
We work on walking re-education, gait training, and improving the quality and safety of movement — whether that is walking short distances at home or building endurance in the community.
Balance
Balance training is tailored to your level and goals. We use evidence-based approaches to reduce fall risk, improve postural control, and build confidence in everyday movement.
Transfers
Safe and independent transfers — from bed to chair, floor to standing, or in and out of a vehicle — are a key focus. We assess technique, strength, and equipment needs to support you and your carers.
Upper limb function
For those with arm or hand weakness following neurological injury, we incorporate upper limb rehabilitation to improve reach, grip, and fine motor control for daily tasks.
Fatigue management
Neurological fatigue is real and can significantly impact daily life. We help you understand your energy patterns and build activity tolerance in a sustainable way.
Functional independence
Ultimately, our goal is to help you do more of what matters — whether that is caring for yourself, participating in your community, or returning to activities you love.
Equipment support
What type of equipment can we support?
Our therapists have experience prescribing and trialling a wide range of equipment to support safe and independent movement. Equipment recommendations are always based on your individual needs, goals, and living environment.
Walking aids
Walking frames, gait trainers, quad sticks, and forearm crutches — we assess the right aid for your level of function and environment.
Wheelchairs & mobility bases
Manual and powered wheelchairs, tilt-in-space systems, and supportive seating — we work with suppliers and your OT to support the right fit and positioning. Please note - we are not complex seating specialists but we do work with excellent practitioners and are always happy to refer you to a suitable practitioner.
Orthoses & splints
Ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs), resting splints, and dynamic orthoses to support alignment, reduce tone, and improve function. Our team use their clinical judgement to support you with a variety of options that suit you functionally within your lifestyle and goals.
Transfer equipment
Slide sheets, transfer boards, standing frames, and hoist systems — we assess and train both the individual and their support team in safe use.
Exercise & rehabilitation equipment
Resistance bands, balance boards, and home exercise tools to support your therapy program between sessions.
Pressure care & positioning
We provide advice on pressure care management and when to refer on for advanced pressure care management. We know pressure care is preventable, early advocacy and information is essential for pressure injury prevention.
Equipment funding may be available through NDIS, Medicare, or aged care packages. We can assist with assessments and reports to support your funding application.
Where we work
Is home-based physiotherapy suitable for individuals with a neurological condition?
For many people with neurological conditions, home-based physiotherapy is not just suitable — it can be the most effective option. Practising movement and function in the actual environment where you live means therapy is immediately relevant and transferable.
We also offer clinic-based, aquatic, and telehealth sessions. Many clients use a combination of settings depending on their goals and circumstances. Contact us to discuss what might work best for you.
Collaborative care
How do we work with your support teams?
Neurological conditions often involve a wide circle of support. We believe the best outcomes happen when everyone is working together — and we actively seek to be part of that team.
Support workers & carers
We provide training and guidance to support workers and family carers on safe handling, transfer techniques, and how to reinforce therapy goals during daily routines.
Occupational therapists
We work closely with OTs on shared goals around function, equipment, home modifications, and daily living activities.
Speech pathologists
For clients with complex communication needs, we coordinate with speech pathologists to ensure therapy is accessible and communication supports are in place.
Neurologists & medical teams
We liaise with treating neurologists and GPs to ensure our physiotherapy approach aligns with medical management and any precautions.
NDIS support coordinators
We communicate clearly with support coordinators about goals, progress, and any changes to therapy needs to support effective plan management.
Schools & day programs
For children and young adults, we can liaise with schools, early intervention services, and day programs to ensure therapy goals are supported across all environments.
We are happy to attend case conferences, contribute to NDIS plan reviews, and provide written reports to support your team. Please let us know what you need.
